First group IndyCar qualifying began at the Barber Motorsports Park for the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix on a greasy track with clouds overhead following a hectic and rainy second practice session. Jack Doohan had a difficult sprint qualifying in Miami. After a first run which put him 16th in SQ1, Doohan was unable to go on a second run. Teammate Pierre Gasly was sent out at the same time. This blocked the Australian, who is one of four drivers this season who has not scored points. Doohan calls blocking a ‘mess up’. The 22 year old was vocal about his struggles. Formula 1 has confirmed a ten-year extension to the Miami Grand Prix, securing its place on the calendar through to 2041. The new agreement with promoter South Florida Motorsports makes Miami the longest-contracted event in F1 history, surpassing Bahrain’s current deal which runs until 2036. After an exciting qualifying where Rafael Câmara took his second pole in just two races, being the first rookie to do so, the Sprint Race followed on Saturday.
