Jos Verstappen has launched a scathing attack on the booing of his son Max and Christian Horner at F1 75.
Red Bull launched the RB21’s livery at the star-studded F1 75 event. However, the team and driver received a hostile reception.
Booing rang out across the 02 area when Christian Horner took to the stage before he had uttered a single word to the crowd.
Visibly taken aback by the crowd’s reaction in the 02 arena, Horner paused after his initial remarks before attempting to continue.
Attempting to acknowledge the crowd’s hostility, Horner said, “I’m still happy to be here,” but this did not change the atmosphere. Later, Max Verstappen took to the stage and received a similar chorus of booing.
As reported by Planet F1 Jos Verstappen attacked the crowd’s reaction to Horner and his son, calling it “shameful”.
“In itself, I thought it was a reasonable set-up, only I thought it was shameful what happened there with Red Bull Racing,”
“That Christian Horner was booed like that, and Max was booed too.
Jos Verstappen believes son ‘fires up’ British fans
Elaborating, Verstappen said that Horner and his son’s struggles with the crowd were because they get under the skin of British fans.
2024 saw Max Verstappen attack the British media for what he saw as bias towards Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris.
He famously remarked that British media had departed the post-race conference in Brazil after his victory. “I have a quick question here. I mean, I appreciate all of you being here, but I don’t see any British press.”
Jos Verstappen believes factors such as this, as well as Max’s straight-talking attitude, were the reasons why his son received such a hostile reception at F1 75.
“Look, then you do it for Formula 1, you are there to promote the sport and then you are booed by the public. I don’t think that’s acceptable. I get it, because Max is the only one who fires up those Englishmen and says exactly how things are.
“But I don’t think this is acceptable, it’s really a disappointment what happened there.”
