Team Penske driver, Will Power, takes his 71st career Pole Position for the 2025 Bommarito 500. Penske locks out the front row with Scott McLaughlin starting in second.
Persistent rain prevented qualifying to start at its allocated time. It was delayed by an hour and a half. In this qualifying session, each driver completes a two-lap run alone on track. The average speed of these two laps determines their qualifying position. Qualifying followed championship order.
Everyone starting their turn
Jacob Abel was the first one out in qualifying completing his first lap in with an average speed of 170.729 mph as brought up his final average speed of 171.424 mph with a second lap time of 172.125 seconds.
Abel set the bar for Callum Ilott. Ilott averaged 177.269 mph in his first lap with a second average speed of 176.250 mph. His final average was 176.758 mph.
Ilott’s teammate Robert Shwartzman had a slower warm up lap time with 168.460mph. The Indy 500 pole sitter was slower on his qualifying laps with a 174.265-second average, going faster than his teammate.
RLL Driver, Devlin DeFrancesco, had a solid qualifying run averaging 176.288 mph, sliding under Ilott in second. He remained consistent, with both laps averaging within 176 mph.
Rookie Louis Foster took to the track averaging 174.448 mph on his first lap and was able to improve on his second, averaging a 175.367. Foster moved to third under with a final average of 174.907, DeFrancesco.
Picking up speed
Sting Ray Robb started his qualifying run averaging a strong 175.071 mph. Robb finished out his second lap averaging 173.881 mph, placing himself in fourth place with a final aveage of 174.474 mph.
Next, Nolan Siegel, first Arrow McLaren driver out, placed himself in third with an average speed of 175.779. PREMA driver, Ilott, still held the fastest average speed thus far.
Conor Daly was able to take Ilott’s fastest average speed to take provisional pole for the 2025 Bommarito 500 with a final average of 176.807 mph. Daly did not have the fastest average on his first lap with a 176.555 mph but found it in the second lap with an average of 177.059.
Later, Marcus Ericsson took first from Daly with a final average of 177.405 mph with both laps’ averages within 177 mph.
Kyffin Simpson only averaged a 172.499 mph speed in the first lap, but was able to go faster with an average 173.574 mph speed. His final average speed was 173.035 mph, going ninth fastest.
Christian Rasmussen did not have pace compared to the rest with a final average speed of 174.170 mph, finishing in ninth this far.
Rinus VeeKay had a good first lap average with a 176.149 and was able to go fifth fastest with a final average of 176.224.
Graham Rahal had an overall average speed of 174.687 mph, placing himself in eighth. Next, Santino Ferrucci averaged a 175.963 mph after a speedy second lap average of 177.226 mph.
Fastest speed train
Alexander Rossi had the fastest first lap this far and had an overall average speed of 177.996 mph, which set the bar for the rest of the pack.
Josef Newgarden overtook Rossi’s fasted first lap average and fastest overall average with a 178.910 mph speed. David Malukas continued the fastest overall average train with a final average speed of 179.079. Next, Marcus Armstrong had the third overall average speed with a 178.754 mph speed.
Colton Herta tried to take Malukas’s P1 spot, but was able to go fourth fastest with an average speed of 178.511. Scott McLaughlin had a wicked fast first lap with an average speed of 180.391 mph and overtook Malukas’s fastest average with a 179.783 mph speed.
Next, Scott Dixon slid in P6 with an average speed of 178.014 mph. Felix Rosenqvist had the fifth average speed – 178.696 mph.
Five time pole sitter at the World Wide Technology Raceway, Will Power, took McLaughlin’s P1 spot with an average 180.329 mph speed. Power held provisional pole for the Bommarito 500.
Christian Lundgaard had a constant average, with both lap averages within the 176 mph mark. He was eleventh fastest with a 176.868 mph average speed. Season race winner Kyle Kirkwood placed eighth with an average speed of 178.229 mph.
Pato O’Ward took to the track to take Power’s lead. The Mexican was not able to catch Power’s average speed but slid into third with a 179.190 mph average speed. Last championship leader Àlex Palou attempted to secure pole position but was unable to do so, finishing ninth with an average speed of 178.381 mph.
Will Power takes his 71st career Pole Position for the 2025 Bommarito 500. Power was the only driver to average above 180 mph. McLaughlin will start on the front row with his teammate.
