Emma Felbermayr took a sensational victory in the second F1 Academy race of the weekend, securing victory on the final lap.
With the reverse grid in effect for race 2, the Dorianne Pin, Chloe Chambers and Ella Lloyd would have to work hard to secure the podium places.
With the track temperature rising, all eyes would be on to see if Chambers and Pin would avoid clashing again.
Lights out and fierce battles begin
At lights out, polesitter Chloe Chong got away well, cutting off Gademan in second. Ella Lloyd surged into third place.
Gademan took the lead off Chomg into turn 5, with the Briton losing position to Ella Lloyd. Chong then ran wide after the back straight, and disappeared down to P12.
Emma Felbermayer now lay in second, as Gademan began to disappear into the distance. Pin and Chambers were now fourth and fifth, battling the McLaren of Lloyd.
A fierce battle developed, as Chambers and Pin made light contact going into Turn 1 on lap 3. LLoyd had to defend from Pin once again going into the hairpin, but the Mercedes driver remained behind.
Chambers’ race then came spectacularly undone, as her and Pin collided into Turn 1. Pin was able to continue, while Chambers plummeted to 14th.
Pin and Llloyd both ran wide at the final chicane, locking their front right tyres. Both rejoined, with Pin conceding position to the Briton.
A new threat shows itself in F1 Academy Race 2
Further back, Maya Weung’s pace saw the Ferrari backed driver begin surging forward. Closing on Maria Nobels, she lined up for a pass. She completed the move on lap ten, but the two cars collided under braking for the final chicane, sending both plummeting down the order.
Nobels retired, with Rafaela Ferreira joined her as a non classified finisher.
Pin was then hit from behind by Alba Larson, but again emerged unscathed, giving Lloyd breathing space.
The battle between Lloyd, Pin, Larson and Alisha Palmowski continued to rage. Pin locked up once again on lap 12, and was forced to concede position to Lloyd for the second time in less than five laps.
Larson sensed an opportunity, and Larson passed going onto the final chicane at the end of the lap.
Nicole Havrda then crashed out at the hairpin, after crashing into Hitech team-mate Aiva Anagnostiadis, bringing out the Safety Car.
1 lap shootout
The Safety Car pulled into the pits with just one lap to go, leading to a one lap shootout for victory. Gademan, Felbermayer and Lloyd were all gunning for the win.
At the restart Gademan opted to go early, and led as the cars began their final lap. The top three battled hard, as Felbermayr took the lead just before the hairpin. Gademan dropped to third, as Lloyd took second place.
At the final chicane, Felbermayr ran over the kerbs and went wide. She duly took victory from Lloyd, Gademan, Pin, Larson, Palmowski, Hausmann, Lia Block, Maya Weug, with Chloe Chambers completing the top ten.
