Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar has steadily improved, scoring points during the F1 European triple-header, whilst his teammate Liam Lawson was left dwelling on small mistakes.
Reflecting the Spanish Grand Prix
Speaking to the media, Hadjar reflected on the recent Spanish GP. In Spain, the Frenchman climbed from 9th to 7th, engaging in a fierce battle with Alpine’s Pierre Gasly. He later benefited from Max Verstappen’s (Red Bull) penalty. This elevated him after Nico Hülkenberg (Sauber) overtook him.
“Really happy, it is the best race we could have done. I really enjoyed it as well as there was some really good fighting, especially on Lap 1 with Fernando [Alonso] and Pierre [Gasly], honestly I had a lot of fun and overtook a few cars as well,” Hadjar admitted.
“Good pace on the medium was I think our strength and we made the most of it, extended on the soft, honestly we played it really well today. It’s just a shame at the end that Nico [Hülkenberg] on new tyres got us but, you know, he was way too fast for us.”
A successful f1 European triple-header for Hadjar, but not Lawson
Later, the Frenchman admitted his feelings on the past races. In Imola he finished on P9, in Monaco on P6 and finally in Spain on P7. He scored a total of 16 points, while his teammate only scored a quarter (4) of that.
“I feel like I couldn’t have imagined a better triple header, three points finishes in a row is definitely great, good momentum and I feel like the car is finding a bit more pace and we also know how to extract it. So, I think the momentum is great,” he added.
A different outcome for Lawson
Lawson, on the other hand, faced challenges on his side. He hadn’t scored in Imola, nor in Spain, and just 4 points in Monaco. The Kiwi expressed disappointed with his performance but voiced confident that the team will improve.
“From our side it was a very strong race, we just ended up in the wrong position. We missed the Safety Car line by half a second probably so everyone in front of us boxed and we just got screwed, so it’s just… to have it that close, after all the work we did in the race, just sucks,” he said.
