Liam Lawson, Racing Bulls, is currently fighting for his seat in F1, as he hasn’t scored any points for any team in the past six Grands Prix.
The New Zealander started his challenging season with Red Bull. He lost his seat after poor performances in the opening two races, and was demoted to Racing Bulls for round three in Japan. Yuki Tsunoda, took his drive.
Far from proving to be a reset, Lawson’s form has continued to deteriorate. Will Lawson hold on to his seat, or will he vanish from the F1 grid altogether?
Montoya has doubts.
While his teammate at Racing Bulls, Isack Hadjar, is becoming a consistent points scorer, Lawson has yet to open his account for the Faenza team.
Speaking to the media, Juan Pablo Montoya, former F1 driver, admits his doubts towards Lawson’s survival in F1.
“I’ll tell you the truth. If Liam doesn’t improve any further, I wouldn’t be surprised if they put Lindblad in at some point. Not at all. I wouldn’t be a little surprised,” he said.
“Honestly, Liam has been given the green light last year and has proven that he has what it takes to do a good job. They gave him the Red Bull seat, and he won it.
“The Red Bull situation was complicated and I think it took a very strong blow to his liver, and he needs a lot of psychological treatment after that.
“And if he doesn’t recover soon, I’m sure Red Bull will start looking elsewhere because that’s how they work.
“It’s Red Bull, it’s a bit like what’s happening with Alpine right now. Whenever Franco [Colapinto] doesn’t do well, the same thing will happen.”
Who could take Liam Lawson’s seat?
Liam Lawson’s future in Formula 1 with Racing Bulls has become more uncertain due to the rise of Arvid Lindblad. Driving for Campos Racing, he is causing heads to turn with remarkable performances in Formula 2.
Lindblad’s exceptional talent and achievements have raised concerns about his potential impact on Lawson’s position within the team.
These issues are of importance and could significantly impact or end Lawson’s full-time F1 career. Heading into next weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Lawson lies 18th in the driver’s championship. He is one of only four drivers yet to score a point in 2025.
The question remains: Can he drive to survive in F1?
