Oscar Piastri arrived at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix as the championship leader, looking to build on his strong start to the season during the Miami GP Sprint Qualifying. With the Sprint looming, the Australian was pressured to deliver, and he did just that in Sprint Qualifying. Piastri secured P2 on the grid, missing out on pole position by less than half a tenth of a second to Kimi Antonelli.
Although a small mistake in SQ3 ultimately cost him a shot at pole, Piastri remained composed and focused heading into the Sprint. Speaking to the media after Sprint Qualifying, he expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, admitting that he is hopeful they can “fight” for “big points” during the race.
Piastri “pretty happy” with P2
Though being “pretty happy” with P2 on the grid, Piastri wasn’t fully satisfied. “It wasn’t the best lap ever,” he admitted. “I had a lock-up into the last corner, which I think was probably where pole went away.” He believed that mistake had cost him the top spot. However, he remained positive, saying, “P2 is still a good result.”
Piastri felt confident about the Sprint ahead. “We can still fight from there in the Sprint tomorrow, so all in all, I’m pretty happy.” Despite the minor setback, he was eager to make the most of his starting position.
