Williams Racing has signed a multi-year deal with Atlassian ahead of the 2025 Formula 1 season marking the largest partnership in the team’s history.
Atlassian is an Australian software company that provides leading AI technology. Atlassian will join Williams as a Title Partner, Technology Partner and Collaboration Software Partner in a multi-billion dollar contract.
The partnership marks a significant step for Williams Racing as they move away from the financial struggles that have plagued the team in the last few years. James Vowles acknowledged the size of the achievement for the Grove team.
He said, “Attracting a title partnership of this size and significance is a momentous day in our team’s illustrious history and a major milestone in our comeback transformation.”
Slow progress
Since joining Williams Racing in 2023, Vowles has focused on rebuilding the team. Although progress has been slow, Vowles sees the partnership as the next big step ahead of the regulation changes in 2026.
“We are putting in place all the right ingredients to get this team back to the front of the grid, and in Atlassian, we have a partner that through its technology and tools will help unleash our full potential by improving teamwork and collaboration right across the organisation.”
William’s have been hunting down their return to the front since 2016-2018 and with poor performance came a quick departure of sponsors. At points, it felt as though Williams may leave the sport due to the financial struggles.
In 2024, Willaims arrived at the season opener with a heavily overweight car after rushing production. It meant they spent the majority of the season at the back of the grid and Vowles hopes to leave struggling season like 2024 behind.
However, James Vowles urged that the step back in 2024 was necessary to take a step forward in 2025. Helping the team run more efficiently.
A new era
Atlassian’s CEO, Mike Cannon Brookes, also shares in the dream of bringing Williams back to the front of the grid. He hopes that Atlassian will be able to be part of a new era for Williams, returning them to their former glory.
He said “Formula 1 is the ultimate team sport, it’s where engineers, developers, commercial teams, pit crews and countless others work together in real-time at incredible speeds to race for a podium finish“
“This team has been through a remarkable transformation, and I believe Atlassian Williams Racing has all the foundations for a renewed era of greatness.”
It may take time for the extent of this partnership to show itself but it positions Williams well for the coming seasons.
