McLaren announced the multi-year contract extension of Technical Director, Peter Prodromou, a key player in the recent success of the team.
Peter Prodromou has been a part of the McLaren Formula 1 team since 1991. Originally a member of the design office, he rose through the ranks to become Chief Aerodynamicist. He left the team to go to Red Bull in 2006, alongside Adrian Newey. However, he returned in 2014 and assumed the role of Chief Engineer.
Since then he has become a key aspect of the success of the team, becoming the Aerodynamics Technical Director in March 2023. Andrea Stella praised Prodromou’s work for the team so far and their continued partnership.
He said, “It is my great privilege to confirm the extension of Peter’s contract on a multi-year deal. The cultural, organisational and technical leadership Peter has brought has been invaluable, and he has been a key architect of the team’s performance turnaround, on and off the track, securing the team’s ninth FIA Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship in 2024.”
“The journey we have been on together as a team, we could not have done without Peter, and we look forward to continuing our quest of fighting for further World Championships together.”
McLaren’s return to the front
The last two years have seen a rapid upward trajectory for McLaren. 2023 saw them return to the podium and clinch a sprint race win. However, 2024 was a new level for the papaya team collecting six wins, 21 podiums and taking the Constructors’ Championship for the first time since 1998.
Prodrmou’s contract extension follows other important personnel retentions. Such as Andrea Stella, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. As the team sets its sights on more titles in 2025 and beyond, they are securing the strong team which has helped them get this far.
Prodromou also looks to the future and hopes to continue McLaren’s progress, “I am delighted to continue my role as Technical Director, Aerodynamics at the McLaren F1 Team. It is an honour to be part of such a collaborative team and contribute to this strong upward trajectory. Following last season’s success, I look forward to contributing further to our shared ambition of securing more World Championships.
“I’m grateful to Zak and Andrea for their continued confidence in me as a Technical Director, Aerodynamics and also to all my colleagues in the team who have provided the highest class of support to me at a personal and professional level.”
