Envision Racing has announced the departure of Robin Frijns after six season with the team, and a challenging Season 11.
With a record of two wins, and 15 podiums during his tenure with the team, Robin Frijn’s time at Envision Racing has come to an end. A former race winner, he fell on hard times this year.
The Dutchman has endured a far from perfect season this year. He finished 19th in the standings and scored just 23 points.
This is in stark contrast to team-mate Sebastien Buemi. The Swiss Formula E veteran took an iconic victory at Monaco, finishing 12th in the standings after a strong second half of the season.
Frijns’s season, however, was blighted by unreliability and qualifying crashes that hindered his efforts in race build-up.
On occasions when he qualified well, such as Miami when he started fourth, the Dutchman slid down into the lower order, seeing his earlier efforts wasted.
Statements from Envision
After his difficult season, Envision Racing has chosen to part ways with the Dutchman, as it prepares for Season 12.
In a short statement released by Envision, Racing Team Principal, Sylvain Filippi praised Frijn’s contribution to the team over six seasons.
“Throughout Robin’s six seasons with Envision Racing, he has delivered excellent results and cracking drives, and we have thoroughly enjoyed working with such a talented driver.
His two victories and numerous podiums stand-out, but also his raw speed and ability to deliver a lap when it mattered. He’s been a fierce competitor and a valued part of our team.
Formula E is an ever-evolving championship, and for us, the time has come for an exciting new change. We look forward to announcing our Season 12 line-up shortly.”
Statement from Envision
After six incredible seasons together, we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to Robin Frijns for his invaluable contributions to the Envision Racing family. As Robin embarks on the next chapter of his career, we reflect on the unforgettable journey we’ve shared – filled with highs, challenges, and moments that will forever be part of our team’s history.
Joining Envision Racing in Season 5, Robin quickly made his mark with his raw pace, fearless race craft, and unwavering commitment to pushing the limits. Across two stints with the team (Seasons 5–8 and Seasons 10 & 11), the Dutchman delivered performances that thrilled fans; none more memorable than his two iconic race wins in Paris and New York.
