Roman Staněk grabbed his long-awaited maiden pole position around the Hungaroring circuit in an intense F2 qualifying session.
The Invicta Racing driver delivered an incredible lap, edging out his teammate, Leonardo Fornaroli, by 0.146 seconds. The incredible effort of the two drivers led to an Invicta one-two in not only qualifying, but also the feature race, where the Czech driver grabbed P2. The Hungarian GP weekend marks a marvellous overall result for the team and sets the right tone before heading into summer break.
When speaking about his experience at the F2 Hungarian GP, Staněk was delighted, stating:
“Incredible weekend for the team. I am really happy for them because they have been working hard, and my engineer has been doing a great job.“
The 21-year-old continued on to explain that while the feature race did not go as expected, the team did everything they could.
“Unfortunately, on Sunday we were not able to fight for the win. Leo was just better and quicker and he did a better job I guess, but P2 is still a lot of points and we maximised what we could today.”
First pole position achieved after two years
Additionally, the Invicta racing driver mentioned that it took him two years to grab his maiden pole in Formula 2. The 2025 season becomes Staněk’s third campaign in F2; however, it is his first year with Invicta, as the 21-year-old previously raced for TRIDENT. Staněk currently lies eighth in the F2 driver’s championship with 77 points. The season is looking to finish as his best campaign in Formula 2.
Although the weekend was incredible for Invicta, it did not come without challenges. The Czech driver struggled with health issues throughout the entire weekend. Luckily, he was able to push through and still give it his everything around the Hungaroring, finally grabbing his first pole position.
“Also, with Qualifying, getting pole position, the first pole in F2 after two years, but I was a bit scared about my health issues because obviously I had a high fever, but I managed to maximise the best out of the weekend,” Staněk stated.
The Invicta driver will be hoping to spend the summer break recovering. Aiming to make a comeback in Monza and the final rounds of competition.
