Gabriel Bortoleto capped off the first half of his rookie season with a P6 at the Hungarian GP, a best career finish for the Sauber driver.
It was a successful day at the office for Gabriel Bortoleto, who finished sixth at the Hungarian GP. Overall, it was been a strong weekend for the rookie. Bortoleto qualified seventh and finished well into the top ten, just behind some of the strongest in the field.
The former F2 Champion has demonstrated impressive driving in his rookie year. He has four top ten race finishes in a car projected at the start of the season to be one of the weakest.
His performance at the Hungaroring was no exception, coming away with his best qualifying and race result of the season. To top it all off, he was awarded driver of the day for his exceptional effort.
“We managed to put everything in place”
Speaking to the media after the race, the Sauber driver expressed his elation with the results of the weekend. “…so, so glad. You know, we did an amazing job. The team gave me an amazing car for today’s race”. He continued, crediting the success to the team’s seamless work and strategy. “We managed to put everything in place. The strategy was great. Yeah, I don’t see how we could finish the half-season better.”
It has been a strong conclusion to the first half of the season for Sauber and Bortoleto. Both team and driver have improved significantly from the start of the season. This result at the Hungarian GP marks his third points finish in the last four races. Agreeing with a statement from media commending the team’s recent advancements, Bortoleto concurred, “Yeah, it is indeed”.
What comes next for Bortoleto and Sauber
He concluded by emphasising his eagerness to bask in the fulfillment of him and the team’s hard work and remarkable results, saying, “I just want to enjoy with my family right now and have a good time with them and celebrate these points and these great results and, you know, the great progress of the team as well.”
Over the break, Bortoleto and the team will have the opportunity to rest and regroup. And having finished on a good note, they will hope to come back and pick up where they left off.
His result at the Hungarian GP promotes Bortoleto to 17th in the standings, just two poiints behind Carlos Sainz.
