Charles Leclerc beat the McLarens for pole position for the Hungarian GP. Piastri and Norris will start in second and third, respectively.
We entered the Hungaroring with the McLarens sweeping the practice sessions. Lando Norris was the Friday Champion, going fastest in FP1 and FP2. Oscar Piastri continued McLaren’s dominance by being the quickest in FP3 earlier in the day.
Q1
Williams sent their cars out first, with Carlos Sainz having a lock-up at the first turn on his first timed lap. The Spaniard set the first time with a 1:18.282. Soon after, his teammate Alex Albon went faster with a 1:17.441.
Next the Red Bulls head out with Verstappen with a 1:16.346 and Yuki Tsunoda with a 1:16.534, going ahead of the Williams’s cars. The McLarens went above everyone with Piastri first with a 1:15.554 then Lando Norris with a 1:15.927.
Lewis Hamilton went to third with a 1:15.949 with the Aston Martin’s under with Stroll in fourth and Alonso in fifth. Charles Leclerc enters the Top 10 with a 1:16.216. The Mercedes find themselves in second and third with Russell and Antonelli, respectively.
Sainz, Tsunoda, Oliver Bearman, Pierre Gasly, and Esteban Ocon are in the elimination zone with 6 and a half minutes to go in Q1. With Most in the pits, the Aston Martins are out trying to improve on their times. Stroll improved to P3 with a 1:15.673 with Alonso jumping to the top with a 1:15.281.
Norris improved from P6 to P3 as his teammate, Piastri on top with a 1:15.211. Tsunoda improves to P9, with Verstappen moving up as well. Sainz moved up to P7, with Gasly up to P13. With Leclerc in the elimination zone, he had the fastest first sector and jumped up to P5, with Hamilton to P10. Liam Lawson moves out of the elimination to P14.
Tsunoda, Gasly, Ocon, Nico Hülkenberg, and Albon are out in Q1 for the Hungarian GP.
Q2
The start of Q2 was delayed to clean up the gravel and debris from the track. Rain was spotted before most finished their out lap. Antonelli was the first to set a time in Q2 with a 1:16.386. Soon after, his teammate Russell set a 1:16.057 The Aston Martins go above both Mercedes drivers, with Alonso in first with a 1:15.395 and Stroll with a 1:15.680.
Isack Hadjar jumped to P3 with a 1:15.781. Soon after, Norris set the top of the times with a 1:14.89. Piastri slid right under Norris with a 1:14.941.
Franco Colapinto’s time was deleted for track limits at Turn 9. The Ferraris are in P10 and P11 as everyone entered back to the pits. Stroll improved to P3 with a 1:15.129 with most heading out of the pits.
The Ferraris try to make it to away from the elimination zone and improved to P5 with a 1:15.455 with Hamilton in P7 with a 1:15.702. Norris jumped to the top of the time with a 1:14.890. Colapinto and Sainz tried to move out of the elimination zone, but were not able to improve.
Bearman, Hamilton, Sainz, Colapinto, and Antonelli were eliminated from Q2 for the Hungarian GP.
Q3
With Aston Martin having their best qualifying this season, Stroll was the first to set a time in Q3 with a 1:16.660. Alonso answered with a faster time with a 1″16.025. Lawson and Leclerc split the Aston Martins, with Leclerc in second and Lawson in third.
The McLarens are back on top, with Piastri in provisional pole with 1:15.390 and Norris in second with 1:.15.494. Russell jumped to P3 with a 1:15.632. With a drop in temperature, the Mercedes car was able to improve better compared to the rest of the grid. Stroll’s lap time was deleted for track limits.
The Aston Martins were able to take advantage with clean air with everyone else in the pits. Stroll improved to P3 with a 1:15.498 with Alonso in splitting the McLarens with a 1:15.481 in P2. Leclerc improved from P7 to provisional pole for the Hungarian GP with a 1:15.372. The McLarens were trying to improve but with lower track temperatures, Piastri slid into P2 and Norris in P3. Verstappen improved only from P10 to P8.
