As we conclude a thrilling race weekend at the Belgian GP, the Formula 2 grid goes racing once more at the Hungarian GP. Here are the drivers to look out for this weekend.
The F2 Championship continues to heat up after a hectic weekend in Spa. This race saw Safety Cars, wet weather battles, and post-race penalties that otherwise would have resulted in a change in the lead for the Championship. As the competition gets closer, Hungary will most certainly be a gamechanging weekend in F2. Here are the ones to watch.
Alex Dunne

Landing a start on pole ahead of the feature race, Alex Dunne was demonstrating strong form from the start of the Belgian GP. However, going on to maintain position amidst testing weather conditions and a wet track, Dunne made a show of his skill in Spa.
If not for receiving a 10-second penalty for a start set-up infringement, his race victory would have placed him in the lead of the Championship. The lead being within the McLaren driver’s grasp will most certainly give him the confidence and drive to take it again this weekend.
Aside from this lapse, Dunne has generally had a strong season with Rodin Motorsport and, therefore, is a driver to watch for this weekend.
Leonardo Fornaroli
Fornaroli walks into Budapest having taken his second consecutive Sprint victory and looking to continue maximising his momentum with the team. The Invicta driver also currently sits at the top of the Championship standings. However, with a 3-point gap to Verschoor in second and the entire top five being separated by just 12 points, it is anyone’s Championship to drive for.
A tight title fight, coupled with Dunne’s almost-victory nearly confiscating the lead, will mean that Fornaroli will need to put in an exceptional drive this weekend in order to maintain that lead and hopefully even extend the gap.
Invicta and their Champion driver will certainly be a force to look out for this weekend, as they strive to keep a hold of their top-floor status.
Richard Verschoor
This brings us to another driver to watch out for, Richard Verschoor of MP Motorsport. Three points behind, on Fornaroli’s heels, Verschoor will be familiar with the experience of coming from behind to take the Championship lead. In a tight battle with Dunne, the Dutch driver won the Austrian GP to take the lead.
Unfortunately, it was soon lost to Fornaroli at the Belgian GP after an unfortunate haul of results. However, with a marginal gap to the top, Verschoor will have the confidence to challenge fiercely for the Championship at the Hungaroring.
All things considered, the F2 grid is closer than ever and the Championship lead remains anyone’s to claim. We can look forward to the same level of skill, competition and spectacle this weekend at the Hungaroring, as teams and drivers pull out all the stops to compete for the top spots.
