After a 40-minute delay due to undrivable weather conditions, Formula 3 Free Practice at the Belgian GP is postponed indefinitely.
At 9:00am local time, the Formula 3 grid was set to promptly open up the Belgian GP. However, before Free Practice could start, the session begun with a delay due to severe fog and cloud cover. These conditions pose a threat to safety on the circuit as they limit the drivers’ visibility. Hence, they were a reasonable cause for concern for Race Control who found it sound rationale to delay the session.
Drivers, teams, and spectators alike remained patient after the delayed start. However, as time went on, conditions did not improve, and we saw drivers begin to exit their cars at about the 25-minute mark. After a 40-minute delay, the verdict was issued by Race Control who postponed F3 Practice to a later time.
The pressure mounts at Spa
This class of weather conditions is commonplace at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit and will undoubtedly be a recurring factor this weekend. Coupled with long straights and an array medium-to-high-speed corners, the weather at this circuit is one of the aspects that make it one of the most challenging on the calendar.
A wet weather race at Silverstone last weekend demanded the highest level of skill and resilience from the F3 grid. And, it appears the same theme will continue here at Spa. We remain on standby to hear when the session will resume. Despite the delay, it remains that F3 will be a category to watch for at the Belgian GP.
With top 4 drivers Câmara, Tramnitz, Tsolov and Boya separated by 35 points, this weekend will be more competitive than ever. Likewise, the top 2 teams Campos Racing and Trident are separated by just 2 points, foretelling a critical weekend for both drivers and teams
