Hitech’s Dino Beganovic has had a difficult season so far. Who is the young Swede? How did he make it so far, and what could the future bring for him?
During the Berlin E-Prix 2025, Beganovic talked about ups and down of F2 with the media including FFN. What it’s like struggling with a bad car, and about having a sports psychologist and driving the Ferrari.
2011-2024: His way to Formula 2
Beganovic, born in January 2004 in Linköping, Sweden, started his motorsports career very young. At just 7 years old, he stepped into a karting vehicle. He continued his interest in Karting till 2019. In 2015, he won multiple regional championships, and the following year, he began participating in international karting.
He won the Swedish OK-Junior category in 2018, finally establishing his name in the motorsports world. In his last year of Karting, he won in the OK Junior category in both the Swedish and Italian championships. Notably, he was 2nd in the WSK Euro Series and started in the FIA Karting World Championship (27th).
In 2020, he began competing in Formula racing. As a member of the Ferrari Academy, his year started great. In the Italian Formula 4 series, he made a grand debut as he finished 3rd in that year with PREMA Powerteam.
The following year, he moved up to the Formula Regional European Championship (FRECA) with PREMA. He finished 13th in 2021, earlier that year.
During 2022, the Swede became the champion of the FRECA and dipped his toes into the F3 world, as he participated in the Formula Regional Asian Championship (5th).
In 2023, he started in the FIA Formula 3 series, finishing 6th with three podiums. That same year, he finished 11th in the Formula Regional Middle East Championship certified by FIA.
He continued his F3 career in 2024, where he finished 6th, and started in the Macau Grand Prix, FIA FR World Cup, and finished 10th. With those performances, he was promoted to F2 near the end of the campaign. He finished 20th as he started in the last four races of the 2024 campaign, scoring points in both Grands Prix (22 points in total).
2025 F2 campaign
This season, the Swede has been less consistent than in the previous year. Dino Beganovic has been struggling with the Ferrari and the ups and downs of the results in F2.
“I think from the start it’s been a bit difficult, obviously I did jump in at the end of last year with Dams, and it was a very strong two races. Heading into this year, I think I was seen as one of the favourites for the championship, and it’s obviously not gone that way.”
The F2 campaign 2025 began in Melbourne. He had shown inconsistent form early in the season with a podium in Imola standing out, but several rounds including Melbourne, Jeddah, Monaco, and Barcelona, ended without points. It wasn’t until Spielberg and Silverstone that he returned to scoring in the Feature Races. Only in Sakhir, Beganovic scored in a Sprint Race in the F2 campaign this year so far.
“It’s been different reasons, a lot of things out of our control that’s been the case. But also not feeling fully confident in the car as well, in the driving, it’s been a bit trickier.” the Swede explained.
Dino Beganovic had done FP1’s in Formula 1 in Charles Leclerc’s SF-25 twice this season. In Bahrain, he finished 14th fastest, and in Austria 18th fastest. Talking to FFN he expressed his happiness having this opportunity knowing that his performance hasn’t been the best this year.
“It’s good to have the opportunity and the chance to do well in the F1 car, when it counts in the F1 simulator for Ferrari’s sake to support me and to believe in me, because the results this year in F2 have obviously not shown it.”
With that he explained that his goal of this season has changed. That he rather seeks improvement than aiming for the Championship title as itself.
“There are still plenty of races left, maybe the goal of the championship has changed a bit,” he explained, “but I think just trying to improve this situation that we have put ourselves in, will be the main goal and the ups and downs are always difficult to handle, to reset for every weekend.”
Mental health has been an important topic in motorsports as ups and downs can seriously affect the drivers’ mindset. Beganovic admitted, he had been seeing a sports psychologist for a while now.
“I think since already two years that I’ve been working with a private mental coach. It has helped me very much and especially in the more tough moments, that’s where I see the difference with it and the benefit.”
What the future might bring
In Berlin, F2 driver Dino Beganovic, had participated in the annual Rookie Test. He had been with Mahindra Racing. He finished 5th fastest in Practice 1 and 15th in Practice 2.
Even if the Championship title in F2 this year is rather out of reach, a future in Formula E wouldn’t be unthinkable.
In the F2 drivers’ standings Dino Beganovic is 10th with 43 points to his name. His team Hitech TGR is at 3rd place in the constructors’ standings with 141 points.
