Heading into Round 9 of the 2025 Formula 2 Championship, here are the drivers to watch in Belgium this weekend.
The Championship is tight at the top with just 24 points separating P1 and P5 in the Driver’s Standings. It’s all to play for, and the competition is tough.
Richard Verschoor
Fifth time might be the charm for MP Motorsport’s Richard Verschoor. The Dutchman is currently leading the Championship after strong performances in Barcelona and Austria, the latter giving him his second feature race win of the 2025 season. Could his 5th season in F2 be the one where he finally takes the win?
Last year in Belgium, Verschoor finished on the podium in the Sprint Race and in the top five in the Feature Race. Spa is a strong track for him, and he will be looking for another positive weekend this time around.
Luke Browning
Cheshire-born Browning put in a stellar performance at Silverstone, gaining nine positions in the Feature Race and finishing on the podium in front of his home crowd. After a few difficult races for Hitech, Browning has shown that he can’t be counted out for the win.
The Briton sits fifth in the Driver’s Standings in his first full season in F2. He completed three rounds last year with ART Grand Prix, replacing Zak O’Sullivan, scoring six points in six races. Browning has yet to claim his maiden F2 win. However, more podium finishes could close that 24-point gap to the lead.
Jak Crawford
DAMS Lucas Oil driver Jak Crawford secured a victory in Great Britain, keeping him firmly in contention for the title. He has been the highest points scorer on the grid so far this season with 116 points gained between Jeddah and Silverstone.
Crawford’s dependably strong performances have placed him second in the Driver’s Championship in his third year in F2. The American driver is 6 points behind championship leader Verschoor.
Alex Dunne and Leonardo Fornaroli, in third and fourth place, respectively, will also be hoping for a good weekend in Spa.
McLaren junior Dunne has shown impressive pace and skill this season, and Fornaroli took his first F2 win in the Silverstone Sprint. Both drivers came up from F3 this year, with Fornaroli being the reigning F3 champion and Dunne having finished 12th in the 2024 campaign.
Any of the top 5 drivers could leave Belgium on top, undoubtedly promising a great weekend of racing.
