Álex Palou continues his dominance era after topping the chars in Free Practice 2 in Mid-Ohio. Christian Lundgaard and Louis Foster round out the Top 3.
We retuned to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Saturday morning for the second practice this weekend. Kyle Kirkwood led the overall charts on Friday, with Pato O’Ward and Álex Palou behind him.
Green flag running
Once cars headed to the track, Santino Ferruccio set the fastest lap with a 1:13.0379 with Scott McLaughlin, and Christian Lundgaard in second and third, respectively.
Kyffin Simpson saw himself in the gravel after the newly profiled Turn 4. Drivers had a hard time in Practice 1 with this new flatter turn. Ferrucci cut through slower cars, getting close to many slower cars. With 36 minutes left of the session, O’Ward, Lundgaard, and McLaughlin 3 fastest thus far.
Lundgaard moved to the top of the chars with a 1:05.552. Alexander Rossi briefly put his back left tire on the grass and was able to save it.
Red flag
Markus Ericsson hit the barrier and beached his car in the gravel after a rear snap, causing a red flag at Mid-Ohio with 21 minutes and 7 seconds left in the session. Ericsson hit the barrier with the front of his Andretti Global car. Ericsson got out of his car as the AMR Safety team checked if he was okay and to recover his car.
After the red flag, Lundgaard remained the fastest with Rasmussen and Josef Newgarden.
Colton Herta also found himself off track after hitting the Turn 4 bump under breaking. Soon after, McLaughlin also found himself in the gravel at Turn 4.
O’Ward jumped to second fastest with a 1:05.727 but was not able to take his teammate’s, Lundgaard, the fastest time. The Reigning Champion was able to top the charts in his OpenAI liveried car with a 1:05.396. Rookie Louis Foster slid into the third fastest with a 1:05.596.
Herta found himself narrowly on the grass at Turn 9 as Nolan Siegel was fully in the grass.
Álex Palou was the fastest in Practice 2 at Mid-Ohio with Christian Lundgaard and Louis Foster in second and third respectively.
