Maserati MSG Racing have announced Arthur Leclerc and Théo Pourchaire as their line-up for the Formula E Berlin Rookie Test.
The Rookie test happens every year in Berlin as an opportunity for teams to test out the new generation of drivers. Many teams use it to test their reserve drivers, while others see it as a chance to see how new talent perform.
Maserati have chosen two drivers who have taken part in test sessions before.
Théo Pourchaire
Théo Pourchaire is the 2023 Formula 2 championship winner. He has impressed in IndyCar and held the role of a test driver for Alfa Romeo in 2023.
On the Formula E side, he impressed Maserati when he took part in the Rookie session in Jeddah last season. Coming back to test with the team in Berlin, Pourchaire spoke about the opportunity:
“I’m really excited to be back with Maserati MSG Racing for the rookie test in Berlin. Driving the Gen3 Evo in Jeddah was an incredible experience, and I learned a lot from the team. Formula E is such a unique and challenging championship, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to get more seat time and continue learning in this environment.”
Arthur Leclerc
The second driver is a home driver for the Monaco-based team with Arthur Leclerc.
Arthur Leclerc has deep-rooted ties with the Maserati team. Back when they were Venturi Racing, Leclerc joined the team as a development driver. From 2017 through to 2019-2020, He made his way up to being the team’s reserve and test driver.
The Monégasque driver also took part in the Marrakech Rookie Test back in 2019. He admitted he was looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of an FE car, especially with the new Gen3Evo:
“It feels good to be back in Formula E, especially with my home team. It will be the first time that I will drive the Gen3 Evo, so I am looking forward to seeing the evolution compared to the previous generation that I tested a few years ago. I want to give a big thank you to Maserati MSG Racing for the opportunity, and I can’t wait to start working with the team in Berlin!”
Team thoughts
Cyril Blais, the Maserati MSG Racing team principal, commented on the duo taking part in the test:
“We’re delighted to welcome both Théo and Arthur back to the team for the Berlin rookie test. Théo made a strong impression during the FP0 session in Jeddah, and Arthur’s past involvement with the team during our time as Venturi Racing gives him a great foundation to build on”
He also spoke on the importance of the sessions themselves for the development and future of the sport.
“Rookie tests are a vital part of Formula E – not just for showcasing the next wave of talent, but also for gathering valuable data to support our development ahead of the season finale in London. We’re looking forward to seeing what both drivers can deliver.”
