Lewis Hamilton is targeting a breakthrough moment in his Ferrari career at the 2025 F1 British GP, describing Silverstone as “a really special place” to achieve his first Sunday podium with the team. The seven-time World Champion, who holds the record for most wins at the British GP with nine, will drive out in red before a home crowd for the first time this weekend.
Reflecting on the emotional significance, Hamilton said the moment would “hit me a little bit”. The 40-year-old arrives at Silverstone fresh from his equal best Grand Prix result since joining Ferrari in 2025, having finished fourth in Austria.
“I think on a dry day McLaren will walk off into the distance, as you have seen in the past races, but you never know here what is going to happen with the wind, with the rain,” he said. “The crowd makes a massive difference. I am hoping they edge us a little bit closer.”
Ferrari’s upward trajectory brings hope
Although Hamilton won the Sprint in China earlier this season, he has not yet stepped onto a Sunday podium with the Scuderia. He remains optimistic that this could change at Silverstone, especially with the passionate British fans behind him.
“I am just hoping for a strong weekend. I have not had a podium yet, this would be a really special place in order to have that so I am really counting on the amazing support we have here to hopefully make the difference.”
Team mate Charles Leclerc also brings momentum into the weekend, having claimed third place in Austria—his fourth podium of the season.
Leclerc encouraged by Ferrari progress
Leclerc believes Ferrari are steadily improving and edging closer to returning to the top step, even if a win at Silverstone may be a stretch. The team’s last British GP victory came in 2022 through Carlos Sainz.
“We are quite satisfied, improving step by step,” said Leclerc. “Not satisfied yet as end target is to win races, but this race we were competitive at in the past and Lewis has been exceptional here. Been a long time since we last fought for victory, hope this is the one.”
With momentum building and the emotional backdrop of a home GP, Hamilton and Ferrari will look to convert potential into a defining moment at Silverstone.
