Lando Norris was on a flying lap but was unable to get past the two Ferraris, having to settle for third in the opening stages of FP2. Verstappen struggled in FP1, finishing the session tenth but with a purple sector one, he crossed the line to go second quickest. Just 0.059 from Hamilton.
Oscar Piastri was the first driver to get ahead of the home hero, putting in a 1:27.196 which just edged him out in front of the Ferraris and Max Verstappen.

Sainz caught a gust of wind, losing the rear of his car and finding himself sideways on the track. He managed to get going again, just bringing out a yellow flag.
The session was green flagged and Charles Leclerc embarked on his next push lap, taking the lead with a 1:26.887. However, behind him, Lewis Hamilton was on a blinding fast lap. The 7-time-world champion managed a purple sector one and three, with a 1:26.592 as he crossed the line.
Soft tyre runs
Mercedes were the first of the front-runners to put on the red-walled soft tyres for the next phase of practice. Antonelli led from Russell as they took advantage of the grid being sat in the pits.
Antonelli’s run was a 1:26.383, taking the top of the timings, while Russell finished just 0.140 behind his teammates. Although, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were making their way out of the pits with the soft tyres on their SF-25s.
Leclerc took the line first. His time of 1:26.202 putting him ahead of both Mercedes in P1. Hamilton was behind but with a scrappy first sector the Brit he aborted the lap.

Leclerc left the pits for another run on soft tyres, this time crossing the line ahead of his teammate. Unfortunately, he was still 0.222 seconds away from the McLaren.
Verstappen managed to get his Red Bull into fifth, although it was clear the Dutchman was still struggling with his car.
