Abbi Pulling and Gabriele Minì are set to return to action with the Nissan Formula E team for the Formula E Berlin Rookie Test. Taking place on Monday, 14 July, at Berlin’s iconic Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit. The test will see the talented duo back behind the wheel of the Nissan e-4ORCE 05. Continuing their development within the world of Formula E.
Nissan Formula E Team looks to Berlin Rookie Test with Pulling and Minì leading the charge
Pulling, the reigning F1 Academy champion, was fastest at the all-women’s session in Jarama last November. Impressing not only the fans but also the team. In her new role as Nissan Formula E Team’s rookie and simulator driver, Berlin will be her first time behind the wheel after the announcement. The female driver is currently competing in the GB3 Championship, with a impressive debut at Silverstone. Here she finished in fifth position.
Completing the line-up is Minì, returning to the team for a third time. As, the Nissan Formula E Team has an ongoing collaboration with Alpine Racing. In last year’s Berlin Rookie Test, Minì finished in P10. He showed his skills again at FP0 in Jeddah, where he put in the second-fastest time. Currently, the Italian enjoys his first season of Formula 2. Here he secured a podium in the Monaco Sprint Race.
Volpe confident as rookies team up for Berlin test
Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of the Nissan Formula E Team, shared his enthusiasm ahead of the rookie test in Berlin. He said the team was excited to have Pulling and Minì on their line-up. For Pulling, this will be her “first on-track action” since stepping into the role of rookie and simulator driver. Meanwhile, Minì returns thanks to the team’s close work with Alpine Racing. Previously, Nissan had worked with both drivers individually, enjoying significant success.
“We’re very happy to have Abbi and Gabriele with us for the Berlin rookie test this year. It will be Abbi’s first on-track action since joining us as our rookie and simulator driver, and we’re happy to welcome Gabriele again thanks to our close collaboration with Alpine Racing.”
Now, Volpe looked forward to see them for the first time driving for one team. Furthermore, he highlighted their strong potential, calling them “very talented drivers.” Importantly, he stressed the value of “continuity with our rookies,” as it allows them to grow consistently while “doing a better job for the team every time.”
“We’ve worked with them separately in the past with a lot of success, so it will be great to see them teaming up for this test. They’re both very talented drivers and for us it is great to have continuity with our rookies, so they can keep developing at the same time as doing a better job for the team every time.”
Pulling excited by “amazing opportunity”
Abbi Pulling expressed her excitement ahead of the Berlin rookie test, ready to return to work with the Nissan Formula E Team. Although she has driven on street circuits before, this would be her first time in a “high-powered car” like the Nissan e-4ORCE 05. As she put it, the test was an “amazing opportunity.”
“I’m really excited to get out on track and to work with the team again. I’ve driven street circuits before but never in such a high-powered car, so it will be an amazing opportunity.”
Berlin, in her view, looked like a “fun track,” and she looked forward to learning from Gabriele Minì who participated in the Rookie Test with Nissan in 2024. Importantly, she planned to be present during the race weekend before the test. Her goal was clear: improve her understanding of the car, gain information on the car and enjoy the experience.
“Berlin looks like a fun track – Gabriele has been there with the team before, so it will be interesting to work with him and get up to speed from his previous experience. I’ll be there for the race weekend prior to the test as well, so my goal is mainly to pick up as much information as possible, improve my understanding of the car, and make the most of the experience for both the team and myself.”
Gabriele Minì returns to familiar ground with confidence and experience
Minì expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining the Nissan Formula E Team for the upcoming rookie test in Berlin.
“It’s great to be back,” he said, reflecting on his two previous appearances for the team. Having found enjoyment throughout both previous outings, he is happy to build on those. This time, he returns to a circuit he knows well, having driven there during last year’s Rookie Test.
“I’ve enjoyed my two previous outings with the team, so I’m delighted to work with them again. It’s a track I know well, having driven there in the Rookie Test last year.”
In addition, Minì recently experienced the new GEN3 Evo during the FP0 session in Jeddah, where he ran with “350kW power mode, new tires, and all-wheel drive.” He now plans to use his experiences of both previous outings and combine them for a strong performance in Berlin. While showing his pace is part of the plan, his focus remains clear: learning and helping his team complete their program.
“I also had the chance to drive the GEN3 Evo in the FP0 session in Jeddah, with the 350kW power mode, new tires, and all-wheel drive, so I will be aiming to put these two experiences together. My main goal is to keep learning and to help the team complete its program for the day, like we did in Jeddah, while also showing my pace.”
