Red Bull Junior Tim Tramnitz has been on the hunt for points since the beginning of the F3 campaign. Who is this young talent, and what can the future bring for him?
His motorsports career
Tim Tramnitz was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 2004. His debut in motorsports happened early on, at just six years old (2011) in local karting championships. Just a few years later, the German became northern Germany champion twice. With these early achievements, he moved to the national championship. In 2017, he won the title of the ADAC Kart Academy.
Three years later, he started in F4 ADAC Germany (4th) and Italian F4 Championship (24th). 2020 was an important turning point, his career started well ass he was voted as Best Rookie of the season. In the following years, he managed to win the vice-championship in ADAC F4 Germany and Italian F4 Championship.
In 2022, the Hamburger started in Formula Regional European Championship (15th) with Trident. The following year, he finished 20th in the Formula Regional Middle East Championship and 3rd in Formula Regional European Championship. He finished 12th in Euro Formula Open.
In 2024, he moved up to F3 with MP Motorsport as a Red Bull Junior Team Driver. In the eventful season, the German had his up and downs. Eventually, the rookie finished 9th, scoring 81 points, including one win and four podiums.
Reflecting the 2024 F3 season, Tim Tramnitz was keen to improve in the following season.
“There were some things that I feel I didn’t handle well enough, things that this season is a bit different,” he said.
“From rewatching last season, I said to myself that was not the cleverest move I did there, or Qualifying, the tactics were not ideal.”
The 2025 F3 campaign
He stayed with MP Motorsport in the F3 2025 campaign. The season started rough, as with the Sprint in Melbourne. Tramnitz had passed Inthraphuvasak successfully, moving up to fifth.
Unfortunately, during Safety Car conditions, he had to slow down and fall back instantly. He retired from the Sprint race later. In the feature race, on the other hand, he outpaced many of his opponents, finishing 5th.
In Imola, the German had won the Sprint race successfully. He had cleared his teammate, Bruno del Pino, by lap 3, taking the race lead.
In Barcelona, the Sprint race drama unfolded rapidly. Tramnitz’s race started well but got cut short due to a collision on lap 1. Challenging the lead, he collided with Stenshorne, who took Biliński off the road with him. Tramnitz was left with a puncture and had to retire early.
In the first five rounds of the campaign, Tim Tramnitz developed fast as he gathered a total of 70 points. Only in Melbourne and Barcelona, in the Sprint, he missed out on points.
“I think looking at where we are right now, I would say one half of me is fine with it and another half is not fully happy,” he said.
“Looking at our race pace, we are always quite quick and competitive in the races, but I always have to move up the field, which shows the weakness at the moment.”
“It looks like we were a bit on the aggressive side in terms of car setup,” said Tramnitz. “I think for us, it’s important to find the right balance with the car, which is still fast, but also, it’s still good to drive.”
“But also, I think in Qualifying, the mental side is also very important, and maybe it’s something I also have to work on, to be there especially on the last run, to bring it all together.”
At this moment, he is 3rd in the Drivers’ standings, 9 points behind Nikola Tsolov.
Red Bull Junior Team and the future with MP Motorsport
Looking at the future, Tramnitz remained optimistic.
“I mean of course you are looking at future options, and MP is also doing a very good job in F2,” he said. “But looking at the situation with the new car, they were fast last year with the new F2 car, and we assumed they’d do a good job with the new F3 car, because it’s going in a similar direction.”
“Last year, I felt good in the team, and that is still the case. I feel good in the environment and also, I really feel like MP are seeing that there is potential this year to fight for the title.”
“The motivation is there, and the team also did a good job improving the car compared to last year. I feel so good in the environment, and of course you are also looking into what might happen in 2026.”
Being part of the Red Bull Junior Team is certainly beneficial for Tramnitz.
“I think how Red Bull manage things is really interesting,” he said. “In terms of how they work on the junior drivers, I think it’s very different compared to other academies. They have a lot of tools, they have a lot of simulators for the academy, which is so helpful.”
“You work with so many experienced people and I feel like from every conversation you have with people from Red Bull, you can always take something away from it.”
“I think now what is important is for me is to show Red Bull that I am capable of handling the pressure, being in the top three in the Championship, being in the title fight and winning races.”
“But for me personally, my target is clear, to fight for the title and to come out on top in the end.”
Tim Tramnitz is a rising talent, performing stunningly in the F3 campaign. The future isn’t set, but it is certain that the main target is Formula 1. If there is a will, there is a way, and without a doubt, Tramnitz certainly has the will to exceed his goals.
