Nico Hülkenberg came away from the Canadian GP with a third points finish for the 2025 season. The German survived the midfield battle to cross the line eighth making it the second weekend in a row.
As the 2025 season progresses, the midfield battle for the final points positions have got closer and closer, with driver fighting tooth and nail to get themselves on the board. However, Nico Hülkenberg has settled into the Stake Sauber beneath him, managing to make it back to back points for the German.
Hülkenberg admitted that the momentum the team had been carrying in the past few rounds is motivating for him, and he hopes to keep up that energy. He said, “Well, two times in a row, so obviously that’s nice.”
He admitted it’s not yet a pattern, but he’s hoping it will be, “Not yet, I think it needs to be three or four. But yeah, it would be nice, obviously, if we can, you know, continue the trend from here, but obviously definitely, you know, some momentum on our side and a bit like I suspected.
“You know, I think in the race trim, the car even, yeah, comes alive a bit more, you know, that update really paying dividends there and just have a better consistency, a better balance in the car.“
Hülkenberg noted that his battle in the midfield was good, especially between the Williams and Alpines. He said, “I think made some good gains. Franco and Alex had some trouble in what we’re fighting in turn 8, 9 and in lap 1 and, you know, I managed to capitalise on that. Then, yeah, it was a pretty clean race. A couple of overtakes to do, a bit of racing and managing tyres, basically.”
Austria and season hopes
When Hülkenberg was asked about the teams hopes for later races in the season, he said his hopes were high. He noted that he was strong at both Barcelona and Montreal – two very different tracks which left his expectations higher.
“I mean, we’ve had two, you know, very different tracks here in Barcelona and on both we were competitive in the midfield, of course. So, you know, there’s no reason to think why not.”
