Max Verstappen has offered little insight into his Canadian GP qualifying performance ahead of Sunday’s race.
After seeing his pace drop off during second practice on Friday afternoon, Max Verstappen emerged as front runner during Canadian GP qualifying.
Using medium tyres, he featured towards the top of the timesheets in the opening two sessions. However, he showed his true hand in Q3, moving into first place after the first runs.
Improving on his second run to reclaim pole position, George Russell deposed him in the dying seconds.
Speaking in the post qualifying press conference, Max Verstappen gave a short summary of his performance. Asked if he had anything left in the car, the reigning champion simply answered “No”.
Running through his qualifying, he confirmed the session went to plan with no abnormalities.
“It was fine. I mean, I made progress every qualifying. We planned it with a Medium like that, and everything worked well. So I’m happy with that.”
A positive race in prospect for Max Verstappen at the Canadian GP?
Max Verstappen confirmed that tyre management would be critical during the Canadian GP and he had a good feeling with the car.
He also confirmed he had his sights set on a strong result.
“It felt okay yesterday. I mean, I was fairly happy with the car. You just need to look after the tyres. There was a bit of graining for everyone yesterday, so we’ll try to keep that under control for tomorrow, also with the warmer temperatures.
“I think being on the podium, trying to be as competitive as we can be, trying to extract the most out of the car. But I don’t know. We’ll probably find out after the race if we did so. But, yeah, hopefully we can just be good on tyre management.
He then cut off a question about any potential incident on the run down to the first corner on Sunday. Max Verstappen is now just one point away from a race ban.
“I don’t need to hear it again. It’s really pissing me off. I mean, you were speaking about it on Thursday. It’s such a waste of time. It’s very childish. So, that’s why I also don’t want to say too much because it’s really annoying, this world that we live in.”
