In torrential rain, Porsche driver Pascal Wehrlein navigated risky conditions to clinch second place in Round 11 of the 2025 Shanghai E-Prix. With a well-timed ATTACK MODE, he edged out teammate António Félix da Costa, who secured third. After a scoreless Saturday, Porsche bounced back with a vital double podium. Their performance vaulted the team back to the top of the FIA Teams’ World Championship. Sitting second and third in the Drivers’ standings, Wehrlein and Da Costa remain firmly in the title fight with five races remaining.
Wet-weather pace delivers podium for Wehrlein at Shanghai E-Prix
Wehrlein left Round 11 of the Formula E championship in Shanghai encouraged. He managed the “tricky” conditions well and showed “good” pace throughout the race. While he didn’t take the win, he stayed comfortably ahead of the drivers behind.
“Very tricky conditions especially in the beginning, I think it got a little bit better towards the end, but our pace was good. Not good enough for P1, but quite far ahead of the guys behind.”
More significantly, Wehrlein observed progress in the team’s wet-weather performance – an area that had previously posed challenges in races such as Tokyo and Monaco. He noted that, for the first time, the car felt “very competitive in the wet.” This improvement in setup direction instilled confidence and contributed to what he described as a “happy ending” to the weekend.
“Personally, I’m very happy about the result today because today was the first time that I felt like we were very competitive in the wet, which wasn’t the case in Tokyo and Monaco. I think we’ve found a good way there and in the end, a happy ending for us.”
Challenging Shanghai E-Prix ends with a valuable podium for da Costa and Porsche
Da Costa admitted the race was a challenge from inside the cockpit. As he struggled with car balance and found it difficult to manage rear grip, which made the race of Round 11 of the 2025 championship in Shanghai far from “enjoyable.” Despite lacking pace, he managed to secure a podium.
Though he started second and dropped to third, da Costa focused on maximizing the result once it became clear he couldn’t match the speed of the front two. He took satisfaction in the team effort, with “two cars from the team” finishing on the podium. While da Costa congratulated Cassidy on the win, he highlighted the importance of getting “good points” for the team, together with his teammate.
“It was very hard from inside the car – I felt like my balance wasn’t quite there, and I really struggled with my rears, so it wasn’t enjoyable and it was very hard to keep the car on track.”
“I was slow to be honest, but good enough for a podium – two cars from the team are on the podium, so that’s always positive.”
I’m happy for Nick [Cassidy], he did a really good job, but we’ve got good points. Starting second and finishing third is not ideal – in the beginning I thought we had something, but then it was clear to me that I didn’t have the pace of the two cars in front, so it was all about bringing the podium home.”
