Sebastien Buemi has revealed how he spectacularly won a rain soaked Monaco E-Prix winner on Sunday.
Starting eighth on the grid after a challenging qualifying session in the morning, Sébastien Buemi had a mountain to climb to secure a good result at the Monaco E-Prix.
Buemi used his vast skill set and experience to perfection. Mastering the changeable conditions, he pulled off spectacular overtakes on those ahead of him.
The Swiss driver finished four seconds ahead of Oliver Rowland at at the chequered flag. He was understandably emotional in Parc Ferme. It was his first victory in 78 races.
Speaking to media in the post-qualifying press conference, including Fastest Formula News, Sébastien Buemi reflected on his long absence from the podium.
“You’re right, it’s been a long time. I can’t even remember the last time in New York, but you need everything to align properly in these kind of races.
“The attack mode, when you do what, when you fight, when you overtake, and I guess today everything just aligned properly .I was lucky to take the attack mode at the right time, you don’t know if you get the full consideration while you’re in attack mode, you lose your race, and I think that’s really something that they need to change for the championship.
“You can’t be losing something that makes such a big difference, especially if it’s not your fault. But yeah, I think I was just able to pass Ollie and De Vries and Jev quite quickly, and then I was able to make a big gap at the end with the attack mode, and I think that was the key.
“Because every straight you spend behind the car that is not in attack mode, you basically waste a lot of lap time, so I think that was the key.

What was the secret behind Buemi’s masterful Monaco win?
Sébastien Buemi then revealed how he won the race, confirming he had to adapt to the changing conditions.
“You need a good car, you need to make the right decisions, also at the end it was drying up quite a lot, you could see a bit, so you have to be clever on where to put the car, because you could start to see the line drying up, and there was quite a lot of lap time if you were able to have the confidence to attack in those corners.
” In the last ten laps, really, I was just hoping for no crash from anyone, no safety car, you know. I was lucky with that.”
Keeping motivated after an extended spell off the podium
SébastienBuemi gave a resolute response when asked how he stayed motivated after his 78-race absence from the podium.
“You’re a competitor, you go again and again, but of course at some point you doubt yourself, you think, you know, I can’t do it.
“I was teammates with those two guys, and at some point they were a lot better than me, so you’ve got to work hard, and if you keep pushing at some point, you try to learn from your mistakes and it gets better.
“I think that car never suited my style very much, but I’m trying to learn still.”
Buemi celebrated his empahtic win by taking a dip in the iconic pool near Rascass after the race to the delight of media and fans.
