Pascal Wehrlein has reflected on a difficult afternoon at Race 1 of the Monaco E-Prix.
After a difficult qualifying session, Pascal Wehrlein started Race 1 of the Monaco E-Prix from fifth, and aimed to move into the podium places.
Unfortunately, an eventful afternoon involving clashes with Nyck de Vries and Oliver Rowland resulted in a sixth-place finish.
Speaking to Fastest Formula News after the Monaco E-Prix, Wehrlein delivered a blunt assessment on his battles with De Vries.
“De Vries today fought for his life, doing some very questionable moves to defend his position. I just took advantage of that because Dan [Ticktum] had to cut the chicane. I tried a couple of times as well to overtake De Vries.”
“Somehow he was sleeping in his full course yellow. He didn’t deactivate it. I don’t know what happened, and still managed to watch in the mirrors and drive into me.”
A race of challenges for Pascal Wehrlein at Monaco E-Prix
The reigning world champion also revealed an issue at his pit stop which prevented him from moving further up the order at the Monaco E-Prix.
“And part from that, we had an issue at the pit boost that the first time we connected the cable, it didn’t recharge.
“So overall, considering what happened, yeah, still a couple of points, but could have been much more.”
Pascal Wehrlein was also confident of a strong performance in the second race on Sunday, believing Porsche had pace.
“I think we have everything to have a good race. I wasn’t happy today in qualifying. It felt like it was the worst session of the day.
“Putting on a different set of tires just felt bad. Yeah, that set felt like it had an issue. So, a bit of a shame there, but obviously we need to start a bit further ahead.
“But still, it would have been a podium today, so I cannot complain about our pace. So we just need to keep improving a bit for tomorrow and get everything together.”
