Cupra Kiro Team Principal Alex Hui has spoken of his confidence ahead of the Monaco E-Prix.
The team is in buoyant spirits ahead of rounds six and seven. The team has scored good points in the opening rounds, taking six points in Miami. Dan Ticktum has been the team’s sole points scorer in the season’s first half.
Rookie Beckmann, by contrast, has endured a baptism of fire. Currently sitting in last place in the driver’s championship, Monaco provides the youngster with his best opportunity yet of moving out of the doldrums. The principality is the first circuit has previously raced on German all season.
But Cupra Kiro have given their clearest indication yet that it plans to move beyond simply scoring points. Racing in Monaco’s famous streets, the team has set an ambitious goal for its weekend in the principality.
Speaking to media in a roundtable session on Friday, Team Principal Alex Hui said the car had potential. Answering a question from Fastest Formula News, Hui elaborated on the team’s ambitions in the principality. He said the race could a confidence booster for David Beckmann.
“I would have to believe every race we can get a podium. So, obviously, it’s very difficult to do any prediction.
“We just try our best. But I would say I have a good feeling of this weekend, because, as I said,[this is the] first track day David has driven. So I think that will help his confidence.
“In lap one, he doesn’t need to really think, oh, he’s left or right, or, you know, just remove that. So I think they will start in a good place.”
A race weekend of two halves for Cupra Kiro
Hui also said the energy saving required in Sunday’s race would have a major impact on the result. He spoke of his confidence in the Porsche powertrain.
“In the Sunday race, it will be a more energy-saving race.So Porsche got good powertrain. But having said that, I think this year what we’ve seen, the differences of powertrain efficiency have reduced between teams.
“And last year, Pascal Wehrlein put on pole position here. So we would believe the same car should be competitive. Although with different tyres and four-wheel drive.
“But we will push hard.I feel good up to this point. Maybe after tomorrow, the first race, you can come to ask me again.
Entering the Monaco E-Prix weekend, Cupra Kiro is 10th in the team’s championship, six points behind Lola.
