The 2025 season of Liam Lawson was nothing short of a chaotic ride, after being demoted from his Red Bull seat after just two race weekends as Max Verstappen’s teammate.
Now back at Racing Bulls, the team where he made his previous 11 Grand Prix appearances, Lawson has returned to familiar surroundings. CEO Peter Bayer believes he will soon be back in form.
Liam Lawson was in “great spirits” after settling back in with Racing Bulls
Though back at his old team, Lawson left the first triple header of the season without points. He finished P17, P16 and P12 during the Japan, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Grand Prix.
Racing Bulls CEO Peter Bayer claimed that Lawson was in “great spirits”, after being asked by the media how he settled back in ahead of Saudi Arabia.
This is despite Lawson’s turbulent start to the season. He also admitted that Lawson had been “sad” when he came down to the seat fitting.
“I had breakfast with him this morning, [he’s in] great spirits.”
“It took him a short moment, to be honest; when he came to us the first time, when I saw him in Faenza, Italy, for the seat fit, he was sad.”
Bayer sees Lawson is “picking up the pace”
Bayer told the media that Lawson “was a bit puzzled”, as the seat swap happened very quickly. Though Lawson should not forget that “[he’s] still an F1 driver”.
Being in a team that he knows from the previous season. Bayer keeps a positive mind and stated that “the team will support [Lawson]”. While also seeing “that he’s picking up the pace.” Even though his now teammate Isack Hadjar could already score some points this season, Bayer believes that Lawson “will be back and he will be quick.”
“He was a bit puzzled by all the events because everything happened very quickly. But, at the same time, we also told him that you [must] not forget that you’re still an F1 driver with a team that you know – you know the people, you know the set-up, and you’ll be able to extract performance from this car, the way you drive and the way how the team will support you. And I see that he’s picking up the pace.”
“If you look at Bahrain last week, in Qualifying Sector 1 and Sector 3 he was [equal] with Isack”
“He had a little issue then with the DRS in Sector 2 but we’re honestly very confident that he will be back and he will be quick.”
