Red Bull and Max Verstappen have been a force to be reckoned with since 2021. However, the team believe this era of dominance will continue into the upcoming season. Red Bull’s technical director, Pierre Waché, believes the team’s increased wind tunnel allocation could prove to be a “potentially big advantage.” Particularly in the constructors fight with McLaren and Ferrari.
Under Formula 1’s Aerodynamic Testing Restrictions, teams which finish lower in the Constructors Championship, are entitled to more wind tunnel time. With Red Bull’s drop to third in the constructors, they are given more runs. In the first six months alone, they have 96 more wind tunnel runs compared to title winners McLaren. This testing time can be vital for the team. Allowing them a strategic edge over their rivals, to reclaim the coveted Constructors Championship title.

Red Bull are looking toward the future
This extended Wind Tunnel running presents an exciting opportunity for Red Bull. Ending an era of Formula 1 on a high note. However, the upcoming season is full of challenges for all Formula teams. With significant regulation changes incoming in 2025, teams must develop their 2025 challenger to the best of their ability, whilst preparing for the 2026 season.
The 2026 regulations are set to overhaul current chassis and power unit rules in the sport. Forcing teams to carefully allocate resources between having a successful 2025, or potentially facing long-term competitiveness.
Waché emphasised the difficulty in managing this balance, but remained optimistic about Red Bull’s future. Speaking to Motorsport.com, he highlighted the importance of evaluating the potential gains from each development path.
“[The balancing act] will depend massively on what you find as well,” Waché explained. “If you find a lot for 2026, then the temptation is there to put a lot of effort on 2026.”

Additionally, Waché stated the team would not sacrifice the chance of yet another title fight. If the team were given a genuine opportunity to compete at the front, he believes that would be their main objective.
“But if we have a chance to fight for the championship in 2025, and I think we will, then you will never throw away a championship.”
Red Bull remain a serious contender for the upcoming seasons of Formula 1, and with the season right around the corner, only time will tell if they come out on top.
